Leadership is a joke! The serious side of jokes about our organization’s leadership.

Everyone likes the occasional joke about the boss or the mixed culture of the organization they work in. Here are some you may have heard, or even told to your own colleagues:
"Organizational hierarchy is like a shelf. The higher up you go, the more useless it is."
"There’s nothing like a nervous manager, especially if you’re the one who’s making him or her nervous."
"Leadership is like Wi-Fi — when it’s strong, everyone’s happy; when it’s weak, everyone’s frustrated, and you end up rebooting the system."
"Team meetings are just a way for management to confirm they have no idea what’s going on."
"The only thing more powerful than a manager’s decision is a committee’s ability to delay it."
"Managers love to give ‘feedback’ — just as long as it’s not for them."
"Team collaboration: The art of silently agreeing while someone else does all the work."
"I know my team’s in trouble when the only thing we can all agree on is what went wrong."
"Organizational change is a lot like moving furniture: Everyone pretends it’s a great idea until they realize they’re the ones doing the heavy lifting."
"Being a manager is like being a referee in a game where no one knows the rules."
These jokes are often funny, but there is a serious side to them. Many jokes being frequently made about management – or the lack of it – may point to some serious problems with the organization. Here are three frequent ones:
1. Humor as a Symptom of Disengagement or Cynicism
2. A Signal of Communication Breakdowns and Lack of Transparency
3. A Culture Tolerating Passive Resistance Instead of Open Dialogue
All these symptoms can be measured and corrected using Human Synergistics® diagnostic profiles.
